Sunday seen the return to indoor volleyball for many of our participants since March 2020. A lot of the competitors kept themselves busy over the summer period taking part in the Scottish Volleyball Grass League with very varied success.

With 9 teams taking to the court on Sunday, the pools were drawn up áand the day of volleyball was ready to commence.

In our favourite venue of Edinburgh College, two of the big teams of the day took to the court, Bears and Furiosos. Both teams came through their matches unscathed and then went on to win their other match to top their pools.

Itsy Bitsy Spikers took a very close match against LBV regulars Linlithgow Hornets and then won their final match against Glasgow Pals to top the group.

As 7 of the teams moved on to the Quarter Finals, City of Edinburgh and Glasgow Pals played off to advance into the tournament. The young team from City showed their promise but couldn’t defeat the team from Glasgow.

Hornets, Itsy Bitsy Spiders, Bears and Furiosos overcame their Quarter Final opponents to set up some mouth-watering Semi Finals.

Furiosos and Itsy Bitsy Spikers had an epic semi-final match, but it was the team from Glasgow overcame their opposition to take their place in the final. Bears showed their dominance at the net with a well thought out strategy on how to dominate the net game and make their way to the final.

Hornets and Itsy Bitsy Spikers played out the Bronze Medal match, but the latter team took the Bronze Medal after a tough day of competition.

The final took place between the top Edinburgh team Bears and the top Glasgow team Furiosos. This match could have taken place anywhere in the Scottish Volleyball League as the level of players and skill on show was extremely high. The Edinburgh team had more consistency than their Glasgow counterparts and took the Lothian & Borders Mixed District Cup title for 2021.

It was a fantastic day, especially having players now back on the indoor courts. With the 2021/22 Mixed District League due to start on the 7th of November, teams are now able to sign up via the link below.
